	> Close	Background In vowel synthesis based on series of equal amplitude harmonics, the recognised vowel quality can be changed by either altering the frequency of a single lower amplitude harmonic or only changing the frequency spacing of the higher harmonics. In both cases, the change in vowel quality is indicated to relate to the highest common factor of the harmonics and to pitch. Reference Maurer, D., Suter, H.
